The Blackwall Tunnel closed this afternoon following reports of smoke.

London Fire Brigade attended the scene today (Saturday, September 23) at 12.50pm.

Closures were put in place as a precaution, however, following an investigation crews have established that there was no fire.

There are “major delays” in both directions as a result of the incident.

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson tweeted: “We were called to the Blackwall Tunnel at 12.50pm due to a report of smoke.

“Closures have subsequently been in place as a precaution.

“Following investigation, we’ve established there is no fire.

“There are major delays in both directions which could take some time to clear.”
