Hedi Slimane took us back to the French Riviera with the premiere of Baie des Anges (Bay of Angels), the latest chapter of his pandemic-era Celine women’s show video trilogy. The series kicked off at the Stade Louis II Formula One track in Monaco for Summer 2021, and last season traveled to the Château Vaux-le-Vicomte, a 17th-century palace outside of Paris whose gardens inspired Versailles. The venue for his spring/summer 2022 video was no less breathtaking: the Promenade des Anglais, a pedestrian boulevard along the Mediterranean coast in Nice named for the British aristocracy who spent winters there in the days of Queen Victoria.

Slimane’s sidewalk show featured the runway debut of Kpop superstar Lisa of Blackpink. The singer appeared in the pre-recorded video, walking around the dome of the Nice Observatory in a green varsity jacket, a grey hoodie, and baby blue sunglasses. Lisa, who became Celine ambassador in 2019 for ready-to-wear and accessories is now expanding her domain to perfume and candles as well.

Walking past the iconic Hotel Le Negresco (dressed for the occasion with Celine’s logo in lights) and the Villa Massena Museum, Lisa’s fellow models debuted low-waisted tailored trousers and two new must-have styles of high-waisted jeans, the Polly and Kitty. They wore comfortable kitten heels, plain white wedge trainers, and thick soled Chelsea boots. A new line of costume jewellery inspired by childhood candy jewels added a playful finishing touch.

Lisa and other fashion friends of the house including Kaia Gerber were enjoying their seaside escape as much as their blue blood predecessors: the short also featured black and white clips of the girls dancing to the experimental rock group Can’s 1972 hit “Vitamin C.”
