Black Friday 2020 UK: 5 top tips for getting the best deals

Friday 27 November is Black Friday and, though we’ll be scouting for deals digitally this year (which means no queuing or racing round aisles in a great throng of people), it pays to get prepared.

It’s a brilliant way of bagging bargain Christmas pressies, household essentials and all those luxury items you’ve been waiting to get on offer.

With so many products and deals on offer, it’s easy to get overwhelmed on what to buy and either end up missing out on the things you really need or with lots of things you aren’t sure why you bought.

So, to make it quicker on the day, we’re sharing our top five tips on how to successfully shop the Black Friday sales.

1. Prepare your wish list and basket

With so many deals to be had, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed on what to buy on Black Friday.

Make sure you have a list of items you ideally want to get in the sale event. Plus, in order to really get ahead of the game, make sure you already have an account set up with the brands you want to shop from and have added the items to your basket. Then, come Black Friday, all you need to do, is check out.

2. Set an alarm and shop early

It’s true, all the good deals go first, especially on sites such as Amazon where they’re lightning deals are for only a few hours or until stock lasts.

So, make sure you get to the checkout as early as possible - if there’s something you’re really, really keen on, it’s worth setting an early alarm so you can get up and grab the deal first.

3. Do your research

With so many retailers and discounts, it’s easy to lose sight of what is actually a good deal.

Before you check out, especially on big ticket items such as TVs and white goods, have a quick browse of other sites to see if it’s in fact the best deal around.

For example, a TV on Amazon could have 10% off, which seems like a good deal, but you could find it has a bigger discount from Argos, Curry’s PC World or John Lewis.

It’s also always a good idea to check out the guarantee and returns policy of the stores you’re buying from, especially if it’s a big ticket item.

4. Filter by discount

If you have a product in mind and simply want to find the best discounts available, there’s an easy way to find all the best deals without spending hours scrolling.

Sites such as Amazon and John Lewis let you filter by discount amount.

Amazon lets you sort by ‘Discount-High to Low’, whereas John Lewis similarly lets you filter by ‘% high to low’ - both options will let you easily find what products have the most amount of money off.

It’s a sure way to find all the best bargains.

5. Make a list of other retailers

The rush is on on Black Friday, so websites can crash or run out of stock before you get to check out.

If this happens when you’re buying a product then having a pre-prepared list of other stockists means you can still bag the item at a discounted price and won’t be left disappointed.
