Billie Eilish has just been confirmed for Glasto 2022

It's official! Billie Eilish will be headlining Glastonbury in 2022 – and we cannot wait. The 19-year-old singer-songwriter is set to headline the Pyramid Stage next summer aged just 20.

She first hinted that she would be headlining the popular British festival when she snapped a photo of herself wearing a Glastonbury hoodie and captioned the post '2022', before uploading it to her Instagram stories.

Emily Eavis, a co-organiser of the annual festival and daughter of the festival's founder Michael Eavis, then took to Twitter to confirm the news that Billie would be headlining the main stage on Friday, June 24 2022.

She posted Billie's snap and wrote a note alongside it that read, "We couldn’t be happier to announce that the wondrous @billieeilish is headlining the Pyramid on the Friday at next year's Glastonbury Festival, becoming the youngest solo headliner in our history. This feels like the perfect way for us to return and I cannot wait!"

Although a controversial choice for some older festival fans, Billie's fans went wild for the news and flooded Emily and Glastonbury's Twitter pages with joyous tweets.

One said, "Great news. I’d never heard of her until I saw her in 2019 on the Other stage and she was amazing! She’ll be a great headliner."

A second wrote, "So excited for it! She’ll crush it!"

While a third said, "Very progressive and forward thinking headliner."

And another penned, "She's literally one of the biggest artists in the world? I don't listen to her but she totally deserves to headline it."

Billie is set to be the first female headliner since 2016, when Adele and Ellie Goulding took to the stage. Taylor Swift was booked to play last summer in 2020, but then the pandemic hit, which saw Glastonbury, among many other events, cancelled.

Glastonbury didn't go ahead this year either, and instead put on a virtual event with performances from the likes of Coldplay and Jorja Smith.

We are sure that Glasto 2022 is going to be bigger and better than ever – after all, Billie, who has sold out arenas and stadiums and even performed the latest Bond theme song, has just signed up. Yep, she's going to be singing in the middle of a muddy field in Somerset, England – and we cannot wait.

BRB, we're just going off to cry because we don't have tickets as it's already sold out.
