At 20, Billie Eilish was the youngest act to headline Coachella since the festival debuted in October 1999, but the singer's historical moment is now catching attention again due to a recent revelation.

Speaking to Matt Wilkinson on Apple Music 1, ahead of headlining at the 2022 Glastonbury Festival, she confessed to using a 'body double' for part of her performance at this year's Coachella music festival.

The 'Bad Guy' singer said: 'The beginning of Coachella, I had a body double, one of my dancers for the show.'

She added: 'I dressed her up in a show look that I had worn before. We got a black wig and we put buns in it and we gave her a mask and sunglasses and she wore my shoes and my socks.'

Continuing to recall how she went about using a decoy, she explained: 'I put her up at the back of the stage and she stood there while the lights went on and everybody thought it was me.

'And nobody ever knew it wasn't me, literally nobody knew. And while she's up there, I put on a big black coat and a traffic vest and a hood and just glasses.'

Clips from her performance show a lookalike standing at the back of the stage as Eilish gives an introductory sequence featuring snippets of tracks 'Oxytocin' and 'Happier Than Ever'.

However, the person's face isn't visible until approximately two minutes into the set, at which point her 2019 single 'Bury a Friend' begins playing.

Eilish was also asked if she's ever dressed in disguise to watch other musicians perform at festivals when she's not needed on stage, leading her to reply: 'Yeah, but I was a different person then and it didn't work! I've done it though, occasionally in different places, and it's really nice when you're able to do it.'

Oscar-winner Eilish has opened up about body shame in the past and in 2020 she released a short film, Not My Responsibility, about people's perception of her appearance.

Speaking to GQ in 2020, the then 18-year-old admitted to feeling ‘trapped’ in the image she’d created for herself.

'Here’s a bomb for you: I have never felt desired,’ she said.

'My past boyfriends never made me feel desired. None of them. And it’s a big thing in my life that I feel I have never been physically desired by somebody,' she continued.

'So I dress the way I dress as I don’t like to think of you guys - I mean anyone, everyone - judging it, or the size of it. But that doesn’t mean that I won’t wake up one day and decide to wear a tank top, which I have done before.'

Addressing her experiences as a teenager, she explained that while previously she tried to fit in with her classmates and visited trendy shops, which she deemed 'very uncomfortable’, that feeling of wanting to look like her peers disappeared 'pretty fast’.

Earlier this month, during her Happier Than Ever, The World Tour, the seven-time Grammy winner, who recently spoke to the Sunday Times Magazine about her desire to have kids in the future while dreading feelings of anxiety, debuted track 'TV'.

It addresses the effects of fame on her personal relationships.
