Over the weekend, hundreds of shoppers enjoyed an incredible two-day extravaganza at the glorious Somerset House, which raised £126,646 for Smart Works. Thanks to the generosity of the brands who donated their stock, every penny raised at the Stella x Smart Works event went directly to the charity, to support the brilliant work they do helping women back into the workplace.
Shoppers enjoyed incredible bargains at up to 90 per cent off some of our favourite brands, including Hobbs, Ghost, Me+Em, The Fold, Free People and LK Bennett. There were also discounted gems from Mother of Pearl, By Far, Joseph, Stripe & Stare, Whistles, Wyse, Boden, Nobody's Child and Rixo - plus Anthropologie, Boden, Frame, COS, Nicholas Kirkwood, Bobbie's Watches and Cefinn, to name but a few.
The Stella team also cleared out their wardrobes to curate a room of pre-loved treasures and manned the tills, meeting avid readers and shoppers. Some of our favourite fashionistas, including influencers Katherine Ormerod, Bettina Looney, Thandi Maqubela, Paula Sutton, Emma Rose Thatcher and our very own columnist, Isabel Spearman, also filled up the rails with dresses, coats and knitwear galore.
Bobbi Brown make-up artists were on hand too for free make-up touch-ups, so however much of a sweat shoppers worked up bargain hunting, they left looking perfectly glam. Bobbi Brown were also offering their exclusive Pretty Powerful beauty kits in collaboration with dress label, Needle & Thread, in support of Smart Works. (It’s not too late... they are still available to buy.)
Shoppers also made their way to the refreshment station where complimentary cocktails from our generous sponsors, Malfy Gin and Lillet aperitif were on hand and Drake & Morgan’s mince-pie station was an unmissable highlight, too.
And if that wasn’t enough, there was a generous raffle to get involved with, including prizes from Missoma, Otiumberg, RLI candles and contributions made by Helena Morrisey and Little Brown publishers. There were also bags donated by Coach, Tory Burch and Kate Spade. Prize winners will be contacted later this week.
Shoppers who bought the VIP package also enjoyed a 30-minute beauty masterclass. Make-up extraordinaire Hannah Martin chatted to our beauty director Sonia Haria on desk-to-dancefloor make-up and Larry King joined our beauty editor at large Annabel Jones to guide us through a messy bun tutorial. Both classes will be available in full on our YouTube and Instagram channels later this week. VIP shoppers also squeezed in a skate session at Somerset House’s very own ice rink, in partnership with Moët & Chandon, or visited its current exhibition, Beano: The Art of Breaking the Rules.
Our last Big Stella x Smart Works sale at Somerset House in 2019 raised £91,000 for the charity, so we couldn’t be more delighted with this year’s very grand total. By the end of 2021 the charity will have gifted over 30,000 pieces of clothing and 3,000 pairs of shoes to their clients, and delivered over 4,400 hours of expert coaching sessions, giving women the skills and the confidence they need to nail that potentially life-changing interview. Supporting Smart Works ensures their expertise can continue across the UK.
We are so proud of the friendship Stella has formed with Smart Works, and we are so thrilled to support such an incredible cause. Thank you to all who came and supported this event to remember. Until next time!
