Joe Biden has continued his week of executive action, addressing racial inequity on Tuesday by signing four executive orders relating to advancing fair housing, ending the use of private prisons, committing to Tribal sovereignty, and combatting xenophobia against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.

At the close of a lengthy White House press briefing relating to the executive orders, it was announced that the new president had spoken with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin. Mr Biden brought up the SolarWinds hack, bounties on US troops in Afghanistan, and the poisoning of opposition leader Alexei Navalny.

In the fight against the coronavirus pandemic, Mr Biden announced that the government will be purchasing an additional 200 million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine, increase the supply to states each week, and provide transparency with a three week look-ahead at supply.

In his first such poll as president, Mr Biden scored a 63 per cent approval rating in his first such poll, with the majority of registered voters surveyed by Hill-HarrisX backing him after a busy first week in the Oval Office following his inauguration.

Republicans, meanwhile, failed to declare Donald Trump’s impeachment as unconstitutional. But with only five GOP senators joining Democrats in the vote, they don’t currently have enough votes to reach the two-third majority needed for a conviction once the trial moves forward.
