The British Fashion Council has today announced a new competition which will award three of British fashion's biggest change-makers. The recipients, who will be chosen by a number of celebrity and industry-specialist judges, will go on to win a mentorship programme and a cash prize.

Entitled 'The Changemakers Prize', this project will aim to discover and celebrate individuals within the fashion industry; the unsung stars who go above and beyond, making outstanding contributions and who are striving for positive change.

On the judging panel is Queer Eye's Tan France, models and activists Lily Cole and Munroe Bergdorf, as well as a number of prestigious magazine editors and BFC chief executive Caroline Rush, and Giovanna Engelbert, the creative director of Swarovski, the brand sponsoring the prize.

"The BFC Changemakers Prize is the largest new BFC prize launched in the last five years," Rush explained. "We are thrilled to work alongside our long-term partner Swarovski on this project to build up the Institute of Positive Fashion’s pillars and spotlight the work of fashion’s unsung heroes."

The prize will be open to every single person working in the British fashion industry, no matter where on the career ladder they currently sit. Entrants will be nominated by colleagues, peers, businesses and employers in recognition of outstanding work in an effort to celebrate individuals, and champion inclusivity and innovative thinking.

"We often talk about the 890,000 people our industry employs and I am thrilled to discover some of their stories and hear their achievements," Rush added. "From the shop floor and the studios, to the manufacturers and head offices, we are searching across the country for anyone, regardless of their job title, to find out who has contributed through their work in creating an industry which we are all so proud to be a part of."
