On Feb. 1, Beyoncé announced that she was pregnant with twins, and the world rejoiced.

And then she disappeared. Until Sunday night, when she was without question the most anticipated performer at the Grammy Awards.

In her first major public appearance, Beyoncé recited the lyrics from Lemonade, without walking the red carpet first. She channeled full exotic goddess in a custom gold dress by designer Peter Dundas, in his first look since leaving Roberto Cavalli last October, where he was creative director. Dundas posted an illustration of the look on his Instagram.

Beyoncé clutched her belly, strutted down the stage, and sat in a chair reminiscent of a throne, a crown in her hair. The stage was strewn with flowers, the dancers bowing to Beyoncé. Then she performed a passionate, ardent renditions of “Love Drought” and “Sandcastles.”

What a mystical world away from her first pregnancy announcement.

It seems like that adorable VMAs reveal happened to a different performer. Oh, that clingy Lanvin gown. The heartwarming belly pose. Yes, we’re talking about the stunning way that Beyoncé basically owned the MTV Video Music Awards red carpet in 2011.

She followed that up with a lively performance of “Love on Top,” ripping open her purple sequined Dolce & Gabbana jacket after finishing the song, grinning from ear to ear, and showing the world her pregnancy. Blue Ivy arrived the following January. She wore the world’s sweetest pink tux to the Grammys as she sat on her dad’s lap — and isn’t that ruffled shirt a tribute to Prince? As for that red Gucci cat bag — no words, folks, no words.
