Like many of us, throughout this year of “new normals” and work from home life, my collection of face masks has continued to grow. What started out as a necessity has become an extension of my wardrobe, and an absolute must-have any time I leave the house.
Since not all face masks were created equally, some styles have risen to the top of my favourites pile, including one best-seller from Canada’s own Roots.
The All Day Lightweight Reusable Face Mask is Roots’ answer to bulky and uncomfortable face masks, and is made with broadcloth fabric, which is woven from lighter, thinner yarns for breathability. They come in a range of colours and patterns, including Roots’ signature salt and pepper motif.
Retailing for $22 each, these masks not only help to protect you and your community, but they also give back in the process. A portion of the proceeds is donated to True North Aid, a charity dedicated to serving and supporting northern Indigenous communities in Canada through practical humanitarian support.
When I first received one of the All Day Lightweight Reusable Face Masks back in June, I was impressed with their comfortable fit and breathability. Now that we’re nearing winter, a new aspect has helped propel these masks to the top of my favourites thanks to their adjustable wire that contours the nose.
As someone who wears glasses on a daily basis, the cold weather has made it a challenge to enjoy the outdoors without fogging up my lenses. Luckily, the Roots face masks come in two sizes for a more custom fit, and by bending the wire nose bridge to better fit the shape of my face, it eliminates a lot of the issues that come along with foggy glasses.
What others are saying
With a 4.8-star rating from shoppers, these face masks appear to be a hit. Thanks to their customizable fit and top-not comfort, they have become a must-have among many Canadian households.
“We have tried many types and brands of masks, and this one is by far the best that we have tried. My two high school students will only wear these masks. The quality, comfort and fit are excellent! That they are made in Canada makes them outstanding,” reads one five-star review.
“I ordered matching Roots face masks for the family and they’re great - super soft breathable fabric and an adjustable nose piece, made with Roots’ signature high quality construction.” reads another.
While these masks are extremely comfortable and help to give back, there’s one downside that you’ll want to consider before purchasing — the All Day Lightweight Reusable Face Mask only features two layers of fabric, and don’t have a slit to allow for the addition of a paper filter for added protection.
Since this mask is only made with two layers, I’d recommend keeping it on hand for quick trips only, and following government guidelines to wear a triple-layer mask if you need to wear one for extended periods of time.
