If we weren't already a dog-crazy nation before, lockdown turned us Brits into total dog devotees. Many used the time at home to welcome new pups into the family, dog walks got us out of the house, and we've been spending more time at home with our furry companions than ever before; a really loneliness lifeline for many.

Without international travel at our fingertips, we also whole heartedly embraced the staycation.

So it makes perfect sense that us dog-loving staycationers will be looking for the best spots in the UK to enjoy a break with the whole family, and Tails.com has done the work for us.

It looked at 28 of the most popular staycation spots in the UK and ranked them by totting up the number of dog-friendly holiday rentals, beaches, restaurants, attractions and even vets... just in case.

Edinburgh scooped the top spot scoring highly for pet-friendly accommodation and green spaces, as well as lots of places to eat that welcome four legged friends. The Scottish capital's final score was 656 amenities, with Bournemouth following in second place with 571 and Brighton with 542.
