The best street style at Milan Fashion Week SS23
While Milan Fashion Week saw star-studded shows from Diesel to Fendi and Versace, the streets have seen an influx of the world’s best dressed.
It was a suspenseful lead up to Milan Fashion Week as new designers Maximilian Davis, Marco de Vincenzo and Rhuigi Villaseñor took the reign at Ferragamo (previously Salvatore Ferragamo), Etro and Bally respectively. A change in creative inspiration transpired throughout the week as Dolce and Gabbana partnered with Kim Kardashian to present a collection inspired by the D&G archive from 1987-2007.
Milan was a celeb-packed affair, with a whole host of old-school supers hitting the runway - Naomi Campbell and Carla Bruni walked for Max Mara, Kate Moss for Bottega Veneta and Paris Hilton for Versace - and a Kim Kardashian ‘curated’ show at Dolce & Gabanna.
With the rise of 90s and Y2K trends, could this be double denim’s time to double back? The fashion crowd were seen wearing full denim ensembles, with Diesel’s denim bag a popular accessory.
Doubling up took on new meaning this season with Gucci’s ‘Twinsburg’ show – could matching be the season’s major mood?
Elsewhere, sophisticated Italian tailoring combined with utilitarian pieces to create the perfect transitional outfits. Cargo pants and blazers looked set to be the uniform of the season, while belts are a welcome accessory to the oversized garments.
Prada ensured barely there was everywhere with their FW22 see-through half-mesh midi skirt making a prominent feature among the fashion set.
Summer is not quite over in Milan and colour blocking seems to be the new way to embrace the Barbiecore and highlighter colour trends of seasons past. Shoes, bags, hair: nothing is off-limits when adding a statement. On the other end of the aesthetic spectrum, the gothic revival seems to be commencing with brands such as Versace, Dolce & Gabbana and Philipp Plein all choosing to send out a blanket of black outfits.
We look toward the Paris shows over the coming week with anticipation. Victoria Beckham will have her Parisian debut and master of collaboratorations Balmain is going ultra-sustainable with their recycled Evian water bottle dress. Expect to see more tailoring and cleverly selected accessories to inspire your winter wardrobe.
