Best British beaches: 10 top seaside resorts in the UK

We sometimes become so caught up in which beach in South East Asia or the US we should visit next that we forget what’s on our very own doorstep.

Despite having one of the longest coastlines in Europe, we neglect the fact that some of the most breathtaking views, finest sands and unforgettable sunsets are just miles away.

And according to a survey by retirement home company McCarthy & Stone, some beaches are more popular than others.

After quizzing 2,700 of its customers, it found that almost a fifth (18.5%) favoured the seaside resort of Salcombe in Devon for its sights and activities.
