The Best Room At... Raffles Boston
Boston might often be thought of as a historical city—and for plenty of good reasons—but don't count it out when it comes to modern luxuries.
Tucked between the tony neighborhoods of the South End and Back Bay, Raffles Boston, the first North American outpost from the luxury hospitality brand, is just steps from some of the country's most storied sites, but it also leads a new wave of high-end and very contemporary hot spots. That's thanks in part to touches like the sleek, modern 35-story tower the property calls home, a stunning sky lobby, design work by the Rockwell Group, Stonehill Taylor, and Studio Paolo Ferrari, dining options like George Mendes’ Portuguese-influenced Amar, and a Guerlain spa with a 20-meter indoor pool and one of the best hotel gyms in which we've ever huffed and puffed.
Here, general manager Oliver Dudler shares the details of his own favorite room as well as how to see Boston's other most exciting sites during your visit.
What do you consider to be the best room at the property and why?
While all our guest rooms offer something quite singular, including their own Raffles Butler, the Raffles Suite is really our finest accommodation available—our version of a Presidential Suite. Not only is it incredibly spacious, but it features standout characteristics like a baby grand piano, fireplace, hardwood floors, a large dining table for 10, full bar counter and butler’s pantry for entertaining, and an all-marble bathroom with soaking tub and rain shower. Our goal in the design was to make it feel like a coveted South End brownstone located high in the sky with sweeping views of the city.
How much does it cost per night?
Raffles Suite's nightly rates start at $15,000 and vary by season.
How would you describe the guests and the vibe at the hotel?
Our guests tend to prioritize experiences over products, and value high-touch service and a highly personalized approach to hospitality. They are citizens of the world wanting to experience the more intimate side of each destination, and that's what we're hoping to deliver for Boston. The vibe of the hotel is sophisticated, while also emulating the features of our storied neighborhood—fireplaces and dark wood walls reminiscent of South End's iconic brownstone interiors; touches of green and copper plating that play to the city's Emerald Necklace parks and history with Paul Revere. Its intelligent design met with our warm and attentive service creates an atmosphere that reels you in and makes it difficult to ever want to leave.
What feeling about Boston do you hope to impart to guests?
Boston has many qualities that we hope our guests feel as soon as they start their journey with us. For one, the city is highly educated with numerous acclaimed universities and cutting-edge companies... but it is also steeped in history, which provides a desirable juxtaposition of the avant-garde and the traditional. We Bostonians carry a deep sense of pride, and we hope that our guests feel that reflected in our level of service, and adoration for this great city and all it has to offer.
What’s a local attraction that you always recommend?
As an avid sports fan, I cannot help but recommend hitting Fenway Park for a Red Sox game; our Raffles Butlers can even secure tickets to the most coveted games. For those who are less inclined toward sports, the Museum of Fine Arts offers a highly cultural experience that is reflective of our great city, which can also be facilitated through our Butler program.
