Unlike many Austrian resorts, Ischgl boasts a big variety of restaurants that are independent of hotels, although inevitably there is also plenty of hotel dining with prices to match the high standards of cooking. However, less pricey authentic Tirolean options are also on offer, often served by cheerful staff in traditional outfits.
Serving Tirolean cuisine, the restaurant in Hotel Central is easier on the purse and more down-to-earth than a lot of the resort's eateries. The pastel-pink hotel is owned by the Zangerl family and is a good choice for a simpler dining experience.
At Gasthof Alt Paznaun, the Restaurant Dorf-Cafe has a menu of regional dishes such as Tiroler Gröstl (pan-fried potatoes with bacon and other mixed-grill meats, topped with a fried egg) and Bauernschmaus (sliced roast pork and smoked pork ribs with spicy sausage, home-made dumplings and sauerkraut). For those who prefer to steer clear of hearty farm dishes, there are pizzas, steaks and salads on the menu as well.
Located in the Hotel Trofana Royal, Paznaunerstube is highly rated with four Gault Millau toques – chef Martin Sieberer specialises in regional cooking with a twist. Another attraction is the wine cellar, which houses 25,000 bottles from around the world.
On the mountain
A three-storey glass and steel edifice, the Pardorama is reached from the town centre via the Pardatschgratbahn A2 gondola lifts. As well as having a smart table service eatery it also has a cheaper self-service on the ground floor.

In the Fimbatal area, the Berggasthof Bodenalpe serves wholesome local produce and hosts fondue nights, with a snowmobile to transport guests there and back – it’s best to dress warmly.
This modern venue has a table service eatery called the VIP Lounge. The enticing menu at Restaurant Alpenhaus includes carpaccio of beef, veal fillet duet, fillet of turbot, and a sweet trio of nougat, chocolate and apricot. For taking it easier, financially speaking, there's also a self-service in the building offering everything from Kaiserschmarrn (chopped sweet omelette with plum compote) to charcoal-grilled meats.
