The Best Reactions To Tina Fey And Amy Poehler's LOL Golden Globes Monologue
Tina Fey and Amy Poehler returned to their hosting duties for the 2021 Golden Globes.
Though logistics wise, it was definitely not business as usual - the co-hosts were actually separated with Fey in New York City and Poehler in Los Angeles due to ongoing social distancing restrictions amid the Coronavirus pandemic - their witty, unfiltered, no-holds-barred monologue was classic Fey and Poehler.
Appearing on a split screen, the two friends, who go way back from the Chicago improvisation circuit and their roles on Saturday Night Live, still delivered their monologue line by line like the top professionals they are with not one cue missed, despite the three-hour time difference.
This is the fourth time Fey and Poehler have hosted the Globes and continued their tradition of not shying away from making statements and callouts, with the presenters directly addressing the controversy after it was reported that there is no Black member of the 87-person strong Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) which stages and decides on the winners for the Globes.
Noting that the HFPA included 'around 90 no-black journalists'... Fey also addressed the group directly urging them to change the dynamic and improve representation, which was praised by many online including actor Kerry Washington:
Thank you Amy Poehler and Tina Fey for bringing the lack of representation in the HFPA to light. Real change must come #GoldenGlobes

While many of the celebrities were at home (including winner John Boyega, who admitted to wearing trackie bottoms on his lower half), Fey and Poehler did have an audience of key workers to entertain.
'This front table usually houses the biggest stars in the world,' said Poehler. 'Brad Pitt's always waving at me like "Amy Amy," I'm like, "Dude I'm working."'
Luckily for those of you who enjoy watching the A-list squirm - Tom Hanks during last year's Ricky Gervais monologue, anyone - the camera did pan straight to the live stream cameras of some of the actors the hosts gently mocked.
For instance, when discussing James Corden's controversial role as a gay former Broadway star in The Prom (which faced criticism over a straight actor delivering a stereotypical performance while playing a gay character) , Fey said: 'The Queen's Gambit is whatever James Corden was up to on The Prom I guess,' before panning straight to Corden's live stream.
The 30 Rock creator also continued: 'Emily In Paris is nominated for Best Television Series - Musical, Comedy... and I can't wait to see which one it is,' before the Lily Collins was shown on the livestream.
Delivering a nod to the Zoom-world we live in, Fey signed off saying: 'Could this whole night have been an email? YES!'
As ever, there was a lot of love on Twitter for Fey and Poehler's punchy monologue:
Gonna be taking Tina Fey's "This Golden Globes could have been an email" energy into all my meetings this week

I love how seamless Amy & Tina are in their monologue while NOT standing next to each other! More proof that they should host everything. #GoldenGlobes
