Lab Series

Finlay Renwick, Deputy Style Editor

SHOP

"A few years ago a wise man (the internet) told me that it was very important to wear an SPF year round, even in the gloomy depths of January, lest I wanted my face to take on the quality of a crocodile Birkin bag in later years.

"After lots of research (Googling) I decided to try Lab Series’ Day Rescue SPF35 and I haven’t looked back since. A best seller in South Korea, where skincare is sacrosanct, it’s substantial without being heavy, scented without being sickly and leaves your face feeling fresh and revived. With an SPF of 35 it’s also the perfect day in day out moisturiser that will silently go to work combatting any harmful rays… even in the dead of winter. Thanks Lab Series!"

The Ordinary

Murray Clark, Digital Style Editor

SHOP

"Oh-maaa-gaaad, The Ordinary etc etc and so on and so forth. But, friends, I stand with the legion gushing YouTubers (and no, that's not a position I usually take). As the offshoot of cosmetic giant Deciem, The Ordinary really is worth shouting about, as perhaps the first time ever, we've hi-spec grooming stuff that doesn't cost a fortune. It does actually work too, which always helps.

"The HA Moisturiser is probably the best of the lot. One: because keeping your skin plump and moist and cherub-like is the best way to stave off the signs of ageing. And two: because it's packed with hyaluronic acid, a molecule that holds water and abets better moisturisation. It's also alcohol-free, silicone-free, cruelty-free, oil-free and gluten-free – and at £4.90, it's as close to free as you'll get."

Sa.al & Co

Charlie Teasdale, Style Director

SHOP

"I first encountered Sa.aL & Co’s intense moisturiser when we were testing out products for the first Esquire Grooming Box, which launched last year (and is available now). It stood out to me because I like a moisturiser that really saturates the skin and leaves it feeling properly drenched, and this one does that with ease using aloe vera, shea butter and cocoa butter, amongst other super creamy emollients.

"And! I’ve been using the same pack (tube? bottle?) every day for the past two months, and have only just run out TODAY (honestly), so can confirm that a little goes a long way."

Boy de Chanel

Dan Choppen, Fashion Assistant

SHOP

"What makes a good moisturiser? Well, it should soothe, revitalise and prevent any signs of ageing. But that doesn't happen overnight. For a good moisturiser to work properly, it has to be used consistently. I am fussy when it comes to applying lotions to my face (I hate the feeling of greasy skin), so if the moisturiser means a shiny face, then I won't use it

"That's what makes the Boy de Chanel range a winner (in my books). In fact, I am running disastrously low as I’ve used it so much. It's light, fresh and leaves my face feeling (genuinely) A-grade. It contains hyaluronic acid to hydrate and ‘plump-up’ the skin, and Costa Rican green coffee, which is renowned for its antioxidant properties. Getting in the habit of applying this daily will do you absolute wonders."
