Rihanna reveals she’s expecting her second child during Super Bowl

Watch: Rihanna's pregnancy confirmed after she shows off bump during Super Bowl performance

Rihanna delivered one of the most memorable Super Bowl shows, after dramatically revealing she is pregnant with her second child just as her performance began.

The Umbrella singer, 34, kicked off her live show suspended high above the stadium, dressed in a bold red ensemble jumpsuit while an army of dancers dressed in white gathered beneath her.

But just as she was about to start singing, she pulled open her outfit and rubbed her hand over her growing bump, seemingly announcing her pregnancy, only nine months after the birth of her son on May 13, 2022.

Of course, the unveiling of Rihanna’s surprise bump sent social media into a frenzy.

"The best pregnancy announcement ever," one fan wrote.

"Rihanna doing the halftime show like 9 months postpartum AND pregnant women are amazing," another praised.

"First performance in 7 years, pregnancy announcement, Fenty promo, all in one [sic]. rihanna is the QUEEN," another fan enthused.

While some also speculated over whether it really was a baby bump they were viewing on screen, within an hour of Rihanna's performance drawing to a close, her representatives officially confirmed the singer's happy news.

While social media users also attempted to guess exactly how far along Rihanna is in her pregnancy, this has not been officially confirmed.

It means her children could be born anything from around a year to 18 months apart depending which trimester she is currently in.

In an interview last week, the Bajan singer was asked if there would be any surprises during her performance at Arizona's State Farm Stadium.

"I'm thinking about bringing someone," she replied. "I'm not sure, we'll see."

While fans assumed she was talking about one of the many artists she's previously collaborated with, she may have been in fact hinting that her unborn child would also be present.

Speaking ahead of the show she said that while she’d thought twice about performing at the Super Bowl, ultimately motherhood inspired her to take on the challenge.

Recalling the moment she was asked to perform in the coveted showbiz slot she said: "I was like: 'You sure? I'm three months postpartum. Should I be making major decisions like this right now? I might regret this.’"

"When you become a mom, there's something that just happens where you feel like you could take on the world. You can do anything," Rihanna explained.

"And the Super Bowl is one of the biggest stages in the world, so as scary as that was because I haven't been on stage in seven years, there's something exhilarating about the challenge of it all."
