We may all still be sofa-bound, but that doesn’t leave Netflix as the only option. This January, there’s a whole host of thought-provoking, engaging and inspiring beauty events to join, whether you want to drag yourself out of a make-up rut, understand the science behind retinol, or finally learn how to pronounce bakuchiol.

1. Net-a-Porter's The Beauty of You

Net-a-Porter has just announced its first digital beauty festival, which runs from now until January 25. The Beauty of You is a multi-platform month of tutorials and live events, offering access to some of the most-hyped names in the industry today.

There will be fully shoppable ‘Call The Expert’ sessions broadcast on IGTV, interactive Instagram live events, and a series of extra-special private events for the retailer’s most loyal customers (better hit ‘checkout’ on that cashmere sweater now, then).

Highlights include an Instagram Live session with revered hairstylist Charlotte Mensah, and an at-home spa tutorial with natural beauty pioneer Tata Harper. Make-up artist Mali Thomas will deliver a masterclass on enhancing your natural beauty, whatever your skin tone, while the next Porter cover star will also introduce themselves.

2. Cult Beauty's Up Close on Skincare

Cult Beauty is another retailer starting the year on a positive note. The Up Close on Skincare campaign sets things off with a truly inclusive tone, with the retailer ditching the Photoshop and presenting skin in all its myriad forms, filter-free, across the site.

If you’re tempted to join the movement, share a photo of your unfiltered skin on Instagram, accompanied by the hashtag #UpCloseOnSkincare, and you’ll be entered into a draw to win £1000 skincare credit on the site (as well as a one-to-one consultation to help you spend it most effectively).

A series of live events, which sees Cult Beauty co-founder Alexia Inge joined by some prominent industry names, also accompanies the campaign. The first, which takes place on Thursday 14, explores the idea of beauty as therapy, and the line that connects skincare and self-care. Discussions tackling the future of ‘clean’ beauty and sustainability will follow. When booking, participants are encouraged to make a donation to UK-based charity Beauty Banks, who will receive 100 per cent of the proceeds.

“At Cult Beauty, we love nothing more than a deep debate about skincare with a group of fellow beauty obsessives,” said Inge. “These skincare sessions are exploring trends and the evolution of consumer needs, as we all look at our beauty consumption with more intent.”

3. Dr. Barbara Sturm's Skinschool

For those looking to dig deeper into the science behind their skincare, Dr. Barbara Sturm’s Skinschool series is a must-watch. For each episode, which is broadcast on Youtube, the renowned aesthetics doctor is joined by an A-list fan – previous guests include Ashley Graham and Hailey Bieber – to unpick the industry’s most debated topics.

So, whatever you feel like delving into this month, there's something that's bound to pique your interest, and perhaps even encourage a better, most positive understanding of the true meaning of beauty.
