With Christmas party season upon us and lots of slinky dresses and skirts in shops, the best shapewear can give you a little more confidence and support (and also work a little like thermals when it's freezing, we find).
And shapewear has come long way from those restrictive ‘can't breathe and need to roll them down to enjoy the buffet’ styles you may remember. These days, they'll hold you in without taking your breath away.
Brands like Spanx and Skims don't come cheap, though, which is why we're delighted to see some great savings in the sales right now. Be quick though, as they end at midnight tonight!

Open-Bust Mid-Thigh Bodysuit
Our editor said this bodysuit gave her body and bum “the most incredible shape” and she found it super flattering and comfy, thanks to the ultra-thin fabric. It's also moisture-wicking (in case you build up some steam on the dance floor) and comes in four shades.
Mid-Thigh Short
If you prefer less coverage, these shorts are a best-seller for a reason. They're seam-free and lightweight and aren't restrictive. Great for smoothing out the lines under a slip skirt.
Seamless Half Slip Control Shorts Beige
This half slip with built in control shorts underneath is designed to create a smooth line under dresses and skirts, and uses light-to-medium compression. Our editor was impressed, saying it lifted and shaped them exactly where they wanted it to.
Mid-thigh bodysuit
As someone who seems to live in bodycon (seriously, we worry she must have chronic indigestion), it's fair to say Kim Kardashian knows her shapewear and the Skims underwear is seriously good, we promise you.
The products are super soft and so flattering. When our editor wore this one, she forgot she was even wearing shapewear. It also comes in a range of skin tones. Note that delivery is £10 from Skims so you'll need to factor that into the saving.
Thong Bodysuit
This bodysuit is a bestseller for the brand and went viral on social media due to its popularity. It also came out top in our American Good Housekeeping Institute tests, with panellists raving about how flattering, smoothing and comfortable it was.
Some recommended sizing up if you have big boobs and many said the black version was great to wear as a strappy top on its own (the lighter shades were a bit see-through).
High-Waisted Brief
Another Skims design (we told you they were good). These are a great pair of everyday, hold-you-in knickers. The high-waisted pants are great for wearing under jeans that often dig in as they make trousers feel looser around the waist.
Also, while we're here, can we just shout out the Skims boy shorts – they aren't shapewear but they really are the comfiest pants we've worn – super flattering and lovely and soft against the skin.
Rae Firm Control Slip, Black
Another comfy slip option, which you wear with your own bra, this is designed to create a smoother look across the tummy, bum and thighs. It also has adjustable shoulder straps so you can customise the fit.
How tight should your shapewear be?
It should be a snug fit – don't be put off if the pieces are small; they're designed to stretch. That said, it shouldn't be uncomfortably tight or leave marks on your skin. Look at the product description to see what level of compression is offered. If you don't want anything too restrictive, go with light to medium.
When does Black Friday end?
Black Friday 2024 runs from 29 November to midnight on 2 December (Cyber Monday). Many of the deals will end then so if you see something you like, we recommend snapping it up now.
