A Room With A View, Brighton

This Grade II-listed Georgian townhouse has refined, black, white and light wood interiors and a gentle, marine theme, with framed pictures of sailing boats. The radio playing quietly in the lounge adds to the homely feel. Each of the nine rooms has at least a partial sea view and all are slightly different. Try and bag the roof terrace room at the top of the house which has a balcony from which you can watch the wind whip up the waves and folk strolling along the pier.

Private parking at the hotel is free and the nine spaces operate on a first come, first served basis.

Drakes Hotel, Brighton

Only 10 minutes’ walk to the Royal Pavilion, The Lanes, and Brighton Pier; the beach and Brighton Wheel are diagonally opposite the hotel. Drakes Hotel has 20 rooms and even the smallest come superbly styled.

Private parking is available on the hotel forecourt with space for 15 cars at £15 per night per car.

myhotel Brighton

With North Laine’s warren of narrow streets on the doorstep, Myhotel Brighton is the place to stay if you’re seeking Brighton’s boho scene. Myhotel Brighton is awash with citrus colours, porthole cut-outs, curvy walls and Lego-style linoleum flooring. Feng Shui is the thinking behind its design, so don’t expect any straight angles. Each room features a colour-changing mood crystal and every floor is colour-coded by paintwork and swirly carpeting.

Private parking is available at the hotel on a first come, first served basis: Sunday to Thursday from £21 per car per night, and £31 Friday to Saturday.

Public car parks at a discounted price for hotel guests

Malmaison Brighton

Brighton Marina is a little out of the centre of things though some guests might like the marina’s yachty vibe, discounted fashion stores and string of restaurants. Regular buses take you to the city within 10 minutes. Both public areas and bedrooms are bright and airy and carry the feel of an ocean liner: think portholes, a boat-shaped bar, curved walls and mahogany recliners. The décor in bedrooms is Ikea-chic – practical, pared-back, with blond-wood detailing and lots of primary colours employed.

A car park at Brighton Marina Village is a three-minute walk from the hotel and is free of charge for hotel guests.

ibis Brighton City Centre

Behind the hotel is North Laine – the boho district for flea markets, independent stores and cafés. From the outside, ibis presents a sleek white and steel addition to an otherwise grungy road. Inside, the reception area segues into the bar and beyond, Fogg’s café, where nice seaside touches include grey seagull wallpaper and metal wave-effect ceiling. As with the bedrooms, the décor is standardised throughout – think blond wood, scarlet and grey colour schemes and simple bucket chairs.

The NCP North Road car park is a five-minute walk from the hotel and costs a discounted rate of £12 per 24-hours for hotel guests.

The Neo Hotel, Brighton

On the corner of Oriental Place and Sillwood Street, The Neo is a pebble’s lob from the Peace Statue. Plenty of buses to whizz you into the city are within easy reach, though you can walk to the heart of Brighton within 10 minutes. Inside, lacquered Chinoiserie meets Baroque glamour, mixed with a penchant for dramatic black in fabrics, tiles, furniture and carpets. There’s a certain Biba-boutique feel to The Neo: sensuous and sultry in looks, but respectful of the property’s Georgian footprint.

Regency Secure Parking is a five-minute walk from the hotel and costs a discounted rate of £13 per 24-hours for hotel guests.

Hotel du Vin & Bistro, Brighton

Ship Street, where Hotel du Vin & Bistro Brighton is located, is a narrow road in the heart of The Lanes and leads directly onto the seafront. Appropriately, the huddle of pistachio-toned Gothic-style buildings that comprises the hotel originally started life as a wine merchant’s store. Yet inside, space dominates – lots of exposed brickwork and leather club chairs in the roomy split-level bar, and a strong Parisian feel to the brasserie. Bedrooms have a Rhode Island-feel with sand and blue colour schemes, wicker furniture and pale wood panelling.

NCP Brighton Centre Russell Road car park is a three-minute walk from the hotel and costs a discounted rate of £18 per night for hotel guests.

Jurys Inn Brighton Waterfront

Diagonally opposite Brighton pier and backing onto the Town Hall and The Lanes, the hotel's location is pretty much spot on. The exterior may be 1980s bland, but the hotel has made the best of its spacious atrium, with smart burgundy-toned armchairs, white-sprayed willow arrangements and a contemporary-styled second tier panoramic bistro. Rooms are generously sized, the beds very comfortable and the Promenade restaurant has panoramic sea views and affordable bistro-style food.

The Lanes car park is located underneath the hotel and has a lift with direct access. It costs a discounted rate of £20 per day for hotel guests.

Amsterdam Hotel, Brighton

Marine Parade marks the start of the sea-facing road from Brighton Pier towards Kemp Town and the Marina, and Amsterdam Hotel has prime position opposite the pier. Spread over two creamy Regency buildings is a rabbit-warren of singles and doubles with a penthouse suite on the third floor. The hotel wouldn’t win designer prizes, but the rooms are clean, decorated with lovely Indian inlayed furniture and warm-toned walls.

The hotel offers vouchers for on-street parking at £8 per day.

Snooze B&B, Brighton

Attractive St George’s Terrace is one of the quieter side streets in Kemp Town and is only 15 minutes’ walk from the city centre. Established nine years ago, Snooze is constantly adding to its funky retro-themed rooms. A refurbishment ushered in new bathrooms and carpets, but these are the sole areas of normality in what is a dizzy-making, sometimes daft homage to the post war era and particularly the 1970s. Think flying ducks, “Blue Lady” reproduction paintings, tongue-in-cheek murals and masses of nylon and fake fur.

The hotel offers vouchers for on-street parking at £9 for 24-hours.

Guest and the City, Brighton

Guest and the City joins a number of cool-looking b&bs that have sprung up on Broad Street in recent years. Where rooms are compact, they have kept the walls white and uncluttered, the blinds black, and the odd bright colour note relegated to cushions and rainbow stripes. There are two feature rooms with leaded light murals depicting seaside images of Brighton. Behind these are fenestrated balconettes where you can relax over a drink without getting cold, and gaze across to the Brighton Wheel.

The hotel offers vouchers for on-street parking at £10 for 24 hours.

Sea Spray, Brighton

New Steine is an attractive square close to the Kemp Town seafront. The town centre is a 10-minute stroll away; good restaurants are nearby. This 15 room hotel occupies two narrow Regency town houses. The bedrooms are individually themed with enormous theatrical style and include modern amenities like TVs, Wi-Fi and DVD players. Extrovert design is kept to the bedrooms - the spacious breakfast room is restrained in style and smart, with artwork by local photographers and artists on the walls.

The hotel offers vouchers for on-street parking at £10 for 24 hours.

Paskins Brighton

Charlotte Street is one of the more attractive Kemp Town streets, lined with smart guest houses and just a short stroll from the pier. You need to be a fan of Art Deco to enjoy Paskins. Though generally small in size, many of the rooms feature Art Deco wallpaper, 1920s junk shop finds, and period furniture. The result is a cosy individual look nicely offset by ultra-modern shower rooms. The basement breakfast room and sitting area has a display of Art Deco teapots and advertising posters. Breakfasts are a big part of what makes this b&b so great. No shop-bought Linda McCartney goods here.

The hotel offers vouchers for on-street parking at £10 for 24 hours.

One Broad Street, Brighton

The traditional seaside terrace in which One Broad Street is housed feels very residential – in a good way. Traditional features, such as blackened fireplaces, mirrors, and dressers, added style and character. Furnishings in the seven rooms – all of which have double or king-sized beds – are fresh, combining white with bolts of turquoise and pink, wicker and mirrors; although the greige-style carpet slightly detracted from the seaside feel. Richard is a trained chef, and this shows in the excellent cooked-to-order breakfasts.

The hotel offers vouchers for on-street parking at £10 for 24 hours.

The White House, Brighton

Bedford Street is a quiet back road leading to the seafront, yet just minutes away from the antique shops, quirky pubs and independent cafés of Kemp Town Village. The look is of a simple boutique hotel rendered through splashy modern prints, densely pigmented fabrics, feature wallpaper and the occasional piece of antique furniture. The result is a bright, fresh and contemporary vibe within a whitewashed Victorian seaside villa. The 10 bedrooms here are each individually decorated with great style.

The hotel offers vouchers for on-street parking at £10 for 24 hours.

Nineteen, Brighton

Nineteen is within a short stroll of all the main attractions, and some rooms have side views onto Brighton Pier. Owner Mark McCullough is passionate about getting things “just so” and it shows. The look is relaxed boutique hotel with minimal clutter – the vibe, akin to staying with a stylish squeaky-clean relative. White airy rooms feature high ceilings, oak floorboards, the odd splash of bathroom colour (chemical free eco mineral paints, natch) and international contemporary artwork to offset residual starkness.

The hotel offers vouchers for on-street parking at £11 for 24 hours.
