The Black Friday sales are a prime time for audiophiles, as it’s one of the best opportunities to find the biggest discounts on premium music tech. You might have been toying with the idea of picking up a pair of the ultra-spenny Apple AirPods Max or one of Bose’s new QC45s over the last few months, but we implore you to keep your cards in your wallets just a little while longer. Prices across the internet still remain a bit too high ahead of the sale.
In 2020, the UK couldn’t head out to physical stores to peruse the deals due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, so instead resorted to spending literally billions online, hunting for the best offers. And while some people bought TVs, games consoles, or standing desks for their home office, many shoppers were upgrading their headphones instead, wooed by the huge discounts.
What is Black Friday2021?
You must have been living under a discount-proof rock if you haven’t heard of Black Friday. It’s the world’s largest online shopping event of the year, with dozens of countries and hundreds of retailers taking part.
For American readers, it falls on the Friday after Thanksgiving, and is often a great opportunity to snag a few bargains on anything from 4K TVs and gadgets, to fashion items and furniture. You may remember those absurd videos from the mid-2000’s as US shoppers scrambled and scrapped to grab a telly from their local superstore.
Thankfully, online shopping has negated the need to fight strangers for a deal, as you can just jump onto any retailer website and order without even needing to get out of bed. In fact, in 2020, more than half the total cash spent in the UK during the Black Friday sales (a reported £7.8 billion) was splashed online.
Officially, deals begin at one minute past midnight on the Friday and will last until midnight on Cyber Monday, which is at the other end of the weekend. Cyber Monday used to be reserved for the tech-specific deals on laptops and headphones, but you’ll find those kinds of offers throughout November, so it's now known just as the end of the sale.
When is Black Friday 2021?
Black Friday 2021 is set to kick off on 26 November and will last until 29 November, but over the years, online retailers have been releasing deals in the weeks leading up to the official start date, meaning you can often find the deals you want way ahead of the official sale.
Who takes part in Black Friday 2021?
Last year, in the UK and beyond, the likes of AO, Currys PC World, eBay, EE, Selfridges, GAME, Microsoft, John Lewis, Nintendo, O2, Samsung, Sky, TalkTalk, Three, Very and Virgin Media and Vodafone started their Black Friday offers early with early bird deals, and Amazon confirmed an entire Black Friday Week of deals leading up to the main event.
