There was a time, not so long ago, when the best the male grooming market could offer was shaving foam, deodorant and soap on a rope. Nowadays, driven by unforeseen demand, we men are offered products we never knew we needed; anyone for a beard-softening shampoo? But with greater choice comes greater confusion.

The anti-ageing sector is the golden goose for beauty brands. We all eventually have to deal with wrinkles, hyperpigmentation (uneven skin-tone) or sagging caused by loss of skin elasticity. It is, however the most aggressively marketed and the most difficult sector to navigate. Some ingredients are clinically proven. Others only sound like it.

There are three you should really look for in an effective anti-ageing solution, whether it’s a face wash, moisturiser or eye cream. Vitamin C will help eradicate dullness and make you look brighter.

Collagen increases plumpness. Hyaluronic acid (sounds harmful but isn’t) holds 1,000 times its own weight in water and is therefore universally recognised as the king of skin hydration – dehydration being the root of all evil in the ageing process.

Products that do their thing while you sleep are also very effective at holding back the ravages of time. Overnight moisturisers and masks allow for a more concentrated payload of ingredients than you could wear while going about your day. But I’m not here to give anyone a science lesson.

The edit here represents my top tips for looking younger for longer. They’re insider favourites that won’t break the bank, but get the job done properly.
