Ben Shephard in subtle swipe at This Morning co-star as Cat Deeley apologises

Ben Shephard appeared to take a subtle swipe at his This Morning co-host Cat Deeley as they presented the show on Monday, 13 May.

One of the day's topics was about chatty hairdressers, and whether a client getting their hair done could opt to have a silent treatment instead of having to speak whilst getting their hair done. As Cat, 47, and Ben, 49, read out messages from show viewers on the topic, Cat said: "I quite like a chat," as Ben replied: "Yes, I've realised that."

She laughed nervously and said "sorry" as Ben swiped: "You can chat," with her responding: "I do, very much."

Just a week prior, Ben branded Cat a 'control freak' during a heated debate on the show on Wednesday, 8 May, with Camilla Tominey and Vanessa Feltz. The foursome spoke about a study which found women still do more housework than men, prompting Ben, 49, to try and defend men.

Cat, Vanessa and Camilla grew passionate about the subject, explaining how they feel the findings of the study are accurate. As Cat, 47, discussed being organised at home, Ben branded her a "control freak". He said: "You're a control freak! Just let it happen!"

He then insisted she needs to "just relax" as all four stars attempted to talk over one another. Vanessa, 62, then went on to recall a time she was away for work and prepared meals for her family at home, due to feeling "guilty".

"I once went to Chicago to co-host the Jerry Springer Show and I had to make and label every single meal for my whole trip," she told her This Morning co-stars. Ben then interrupted, asking: "Do you think anybody would have starved had you not made those labels?"

"I had to! I was made to feel so guilty," Vanessa hit back. Ben went on to defend himself, saying he is "so tidy" at home. He added: "Isn't it funny how we all cope when we don't get those post-its and we don't get those lists? Somehow we muddle through," as the debate continued.

Cat and Ben have been hosting This Morning since making their debut on Monday, 11 March. They landed the coveted roles as main presenters on the show following the departure of original hosts, Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield last year.

Prior to ITV announcing Cat and Ben as the new presenters, This Morning saw a roster of hosts presenting the show, including Alison Hammond, Dermot O'Leary, Josie Gibson and Craig Doyle.
