Ben & Jerry's launched Free Cone Day in 1979 to thank its fans for supporting the business during its first year. The promotion stuck, and now Ben & Jerry’s gives away hundreds of thousands of free scoops one day every year.
The ice cream chain announced that Free Cone Day will be held on April 16 this year. On Free Cone Day, customers can receive one free—you guessed it—cone with their favorite scoop. All Ben & Jerry’s Scoop Shop flavors are available—including the new, exclusive mango flavor—so you can try something new or order your tried and true.
The promotion takes place at all Ben & Jerry’s Scoop Shops nationwide, 12-8 p.m. local time.
Last year, Ben & Jerry’s Free Cone Day returned after a four-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the brand gave away more than 970,000 scoops nationwide. This year, Ben & Jerry’s wants to break one million free scoops, so don’t let your old ice cream pals down. Get out and grab your free Chunky Monkey, Phish Food, or The Tonight Dough—you deserve it!

If you’re already so excited for Ben & Jerry’s Free Cone Day that you can’t wait for a treat—we get it; it’s a month away—we have some great news for you. Two more ice cream shops are handing out free sweets between now and then. Dairy Queen’s Free Cone Day, where you can get a free small vanilla ice cream cone, will occur on March 19, the first day of spring. Rita’s Ice is also ushering in spring that day with its tradition of handing out free Italian ice at its locations nationwide.
We know those deals are still a few days away, too, so a trip to your local ice cream shop or grocery store never hurts to curb that craving for ice cream while you wait.
