Bebe Rexha tells body-shaming designers on Grammys red carpet: 'You wish you dressed my fat a**'

Bebe Rexha has delivered a powerful message to fashion designers who refused to dress her for the Grammy Awards 2019.

Last month, the 29-year-old singer explained in a video on Instagram how several designers rejected her stylists' requests for outfits for the music ceremony because she was deemed “too big”. Rexha is a UK size 12.

“So all the people who said I’m thick and can’t wear dresses: F**k you, I don’t wanna wear your f**king dresses,” she said to her 7.3 million followers in the clip which resulted in a wave of supportive comments from social media users including Demi Lovato and Tyra Banks.

On Sunday night, the singer – who was nominated for two awards at the ceremony – spoke to Access Online and delivered a poignant message to designers who body-shamed her in the lead up to the awards show.

Showing off her dark red tulle layered dress by Middle Eastern fashion label Monsoori, she turned to the camera and said: You wish you had dressed my fat as**!”

In an interview with E! News red carpet host Ryan Seacrest, the singer opened up about her reasons for posting the video in which she called out fashion designers for body-shaming her.

She told the interviewer that their refusal made her “really heartbroken and it, like, bummed [her] out".

“They said I was too big or fat,” she said. “I love my body, you know? And I just want other girls to love their bodies.”

Speaking of how she felt in her Grammy dress, she added: "I feel like a princess. I wanted to go for that vibe."

Following Rexha’s video post, several designers including Karl Lagefeld, Jeremy Scott, Moschino and Christian Siriano came forward to offer dresses for the performer for the evening.

"I really didn't expect that," she told Entertainment Tonight.

In 2016, Siriano offered to dress Saturday Night Live actor Leslie Jones after she revealed no designers wanted to offer her an outfit for the premiere of her film Ghostbusters.

She tweeted: “It's so funny how there are no designers wanting to help me with a premiere dress for movie. Hmmm that will change and I remember everything.”

An hour later, Siriano offered his help to the 51-year-old actor and revealed he couldn’t “wait to make her something fabulous to wear”.

Jones later wore a bright-red, off-the-shoulder gown for the premiere and another a black embellished gown designed by Siriano to the 2017 Emmy Awards.
