Caroline Burke has only been blogging for a year but her blog Burkatron is already a popular beauty site for how-tos and style snaps. She does incredibly creative nail art, from vintage flower prints to polka dot bows, and is regularly featured on Grazia's Manicure Monday.
Find out more about this week's Beauty Blogger of the Week with our Q&A:
How long have you been blogging?
I started my blog about a year ago but it's only in the last six months that I've become a regular blogger! I try to post most days and I'm always working on upcoming ideas for tutorials.
What made you decide to start your blog?
It was actually my boyfriend, I was always painting my nails and doing little DIY projects; he suggested that I share them on a blog! Up until that point I'd never read one and I was totally hooked once I discovered them.
Which subjects do you particularly love blogging about?
Definitely nail art; it's so fun and diverse. I love coming up with new ideas and patterns to share with my readers. It's become such a huge part of the fashion and beauty scene and it's something that most people can have fun experimenting with themselves.
What’s been your highlight so far?
I think it's feedback I get from my followers, they make me laugh and I love people tweeting me their nail art photos after they've tried one of my tutorials. It's also incredibly exciting when my nails get a mention in the press- especially from magazines that I read every week like Grazia.
Are there any particular perks of blogging? Do you get freebies or invited to events?
Yes both! I think any girl would appreciate being sent beauty products to play with, I get really excited when I'm sent anything to test and review! I'm still fairly new to this aspect of blogging but I don't think I'll ever take it for granted.
What are your favourite beauty brands?
Hmm let me think... I adore MAC; especially their lipsticks. I always find myself reaching for Benefit highlighters and lip stains, it's hard to resist their packaging! I'm a huge collector of nail polish and Models Own is my number one for bright affordable colours. I'm also very impressed with Topshop's nail varnish and make up considering the affordable price.
Blog brag time: why should people read your blog?
I like to think it's quite creative! I love to put together step by step tutorials for nail art for people to try themselves; anything from galaxy nails to gradients you'll find a guide on how to do it. I also love to come up with DIY posts from tinted lip balms to custom colour nail polishes. If you like to experiment I hope you'll find something that appeals to your inner Blue Peter child!
What advice do you have for anyone starting a blog? What skills/ equipment do you need?
Enjoy it! Write about what interests you, be honest and stay true to your own style. You don't necessarily need to invest in expensive equipment; I take most of my photos on my iPhone!
