Beau Bridges Joins CBS’ ‘Matlock’ In Recasting

EXCLUSIVE: Beau Bridges has been tapped for a major recurring role opposite Kathy Bates in Matlock, CBS’ upcoming drama series inspired by the classic TV series of the same name. He will take over the role played by Jamey Sheridan in the pilot.

Originally targeted for this midseason, Matlock will debut in 2024-25 due to strike-related delays.

From Jennie Snyder Urman, Matlock stars Bates as Madeline “Matty” Matlock, a brilliant septuagenarian who achieved success in her younger years and decides to rejoin the work force at a prestigious law firm where she uses her unassuming demeanor and wily tactics to win cases. Matty is assigned to Olympia (Skye P. Marshall), a senior attorney and key rainmaker with a thirst for justice. Olympia’s ex-husband, Julian (Jason Ritter), the son of the head of the firm (Bridges), is intrigued by Matty and her clever skills.

Bridges plays Senior, the firm’s chief executive officer who has an indomitable presence that immediately alters the temperature of any room. The man’s influence reaches far and wide, and although he loves his son, Julian (Ritter), he might respect his daughter-in-law, Olympia (Marshall), more.

The series also stars David Del Rio and Leah Lewis. Urman executive produces with Joanna Klein, Eric Christian Olsen, John Will and Bates. The series is produced by CBS Studios.

Most recently, Bridges appeared in Apple TV + series Lessons in Chemistry opposite Brie Larson. He also starred in Bill Pohland’s Dreamin’ Wild, which had its world premiere at the 79th Venice Film Festival. Upcoming, Bridges will star in William Wage’s film The Neon Highway, in which he portrays a country music artist whose star is fading. Bridges is repped by CAA.
