If you're anything like me, you're probably itching to get to a beach right now. We've suffered through a long, stagnant (socially distanced) spring, and now is the time for the weather to warm up so we can all take a much-deserved dip in the ocean—or at the very least a scenic beach pic to post on our Instagrams.
Whether you're able to get to the Mediterranean for some guaranteed good weather or are opting for a beach trip a little closer to home, seawater is sure to do you some good. So, what to wear on a trip to the seaside? Social media is, as expected, brimming with ideas.
From cover-ups that can double as dresses to oversize shirts and fluid shorts, there are so many fun ways to dress up your swimwear this season. Why not take a leaf out of Jeanette Madsen's book and wear your bathing suit with a pair of striped trousers? Or look to Aysha Sow for inspiration and wear an all-white ensemble complete with a bucket hat while strolling on the sand?
As usual, the opportunities are endless, but below are six outfits ideas I'd like to copy while at the beach this summer.
Style Notes: From the bucket hat to the trousers, this tonal look is the ultimate beach-stroll ensemble, complete with comfy footwear and a beige-toned backpack.
& Other Stories Flared Linen Blend Trousers (£69)
Arket One-Shoulder Tank Top (£19)
Birkenstock Birkenstock Arizona Two Strap Earth Red Sandals (£75)
Style Notes: We've seen quite a few shirt-and-short sets already this summer, but Amaka's oversize shirt and drawstring shorts just might take the cake as our favourite.
& Other Stories Boxy Bowling Shirt (£45)
Cult Gaia Sloane Embellished Triangle Bikini Top (£143)
& Other Stories Drawstring Velour Shorts (£35)
Style Notes: Jeanette Madsen always looks enviably stylish, and this relaxed beach look is no different. We love the way she's paired her striped jeans with a bikini top and sun-smart accessory.
Reinhard Plank Hats MacRam Bucket Hat (£178)
Eres Les Essentiels Show Bandeau Bikini Top (£200)
Mango Striped Cotton Trousers (£26)
Style Notes: A beach look of an entirely different kind. We're not sure whether Karo Dall was planning on swimming, but her maxi dress and matching flip-flops are a great look for a seaside stroll.
Monki Puff Sleeve Midi Dress (£60)
Havaianas Top Flip-Flops (£25)
Style Notes: An oversize shirt is my favourite kind of cover-up. It's perfect on its own if you're by the beach or pool. Simply add denim shorts for a more put-together look.
Faithfull the Brand Pink Tie-Dye Charlita Shirt Dress (£155)
Nasty Gal We Got Your Text-Ured Bikini Set (£15)
Style Notes: An intricate, woven or embroidered beach dress is a great cover-up option. Here, Bettina Looney pairs hers with a one-piece swimsuit and heeled mules.
Dodo Bar Or Gigi Knit Dress (£648)
Dodo Bar Or Ann Ruched Underwired Swimsuit (£238)
