THE FUTURE of Poole Town FC and their search for a new home could be decided next year as BCP Council continues “meaningful engagement” with the club.

Following a recent meeting between the football club and council, hailed as a “great success”, it is now believed provision for a new stadium will form part of a plan to be published next year.

The Dolphins have not had a permanent home of their own since leaving Poole Stadium 28 years ago.

Poole currently play at Tatnam Farm, adjacent to Oakdale Junior School. Their lease to continue playing there was understood to run until December 2024, but Dolphins have now confirmed terms have been agreed for that to be extended, while they continue to find a new permanent home.

In a recent statement, Poole Town FC said: “We were assured that the council saw us as a local entity worthy of their support and in whom the council had a confidence about being able to deliver the community focused facility that we have strong plans to deliver.

“The August meeting reassured us that… a new home for the club will be built into the new BCP Local Plan that is currently being put together.”

A BCP Council spokesperson confirmed to the Echo this was the case, and said: “The council has met with representatives from Poole Town FC to discuss their ambitions for a new stadium in Poole. We will continue to engage in meaningful engagement and consultation with the club, as well as many other stakeholders across BCP so that the needs of our communities can be considered as part of the Local plan process.

“Our draft Local Plan is now expected to be published in autumn 2023.”
