The Traitors is back on TV screens with a third series, and fans are completely gripped once again. The hit BBC game show returned on 1 January, with Claudia Winkleman back at the helm and a new set of contestants aiming to take home the cash prize.

While everyone's got their sights firmly set on the money, the contestants also have to be careful to not wind up with a fine from the show's creators. If they break one important BBC rule, stars of The Traitors could be hit with an eye-watering fine to pay, a former contestant has revealed.

Jaz Singh, who appeared on the second series of The Traitors last year, has revealed that every contestant has to sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA), which forbids them from telling any secrets about the show before it begins airing.

This is because the BBC show is filmed months before it actually airs, meaning every contestant knows exactly how the series plays out. Should somebody leak what happens, Jaz claimed they could be sued for "hundreds of thousands of pounds".

Jaz told The Sun: "You have to get a ton of stuff prepared, how you’re going to deliver this information to various family members to keep this a secret, because you’re under an NDA, and they will sue you for hundreds of thousands of pounds of TV damages if this gets leaked."

"So it is such a tactful process, and then to get on eventually, it's mind-blowing. You are playing the game before you even enter that castle, before you even get a tap on the shoulder, before you put them blindfolds on, before Claudia says 'hello'," he added.

The third series of The Traitors has proven to be just as dramatic as the previous two seasons, with many players having been banished or murdered. So far, the likes of Leon, Lisa, Alex, Anna, Linda, Fozia, Dan, Livi, Tyler, Kasim, Jack, Maia, Armani, Elen, Keith, Nathan, Yin, have all left the BBC show.

The Traitors airs Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 9pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
