BBC The Traitors fans debate 'big twist' that would 'spice things up'

The Traitors fans have proposed a 'big twist' that would 'spice' things up on the BBC gameshow.

Set to air its finale this Friday (January 24), the hit series has had viewers hooked for three weeks. Now, Reddit users have shared a game-changing twist that they believe would make the show more 'fun.'

The brutal game's structure is simple: the Faithfuls must uncover and expose the Traitors among them in order to win a massive prize pot of up to £120,000.

Viewers know who the Traitors are from the start of the series, when host Claudia Winkleman selects them from the group of contestants.

However, some BBC fans have suggested that keeping the Traitors' identities hidden from viewers could make the TV show more interactive.

A Reddit user sparked the conversation with a thread titled 'Would you watch a season where you know as much as the Faithful?'

They penned: "I'm really enjoying Season 3, but I can't help but feel it would spice things up a bit if we as the audience only knew as much as the Faithful do.

"Not knowing who the Traitors were would bring a big twist to the show, as I think we get frustrated with things like the round table where people get it so wrong - if we didn't know who the Traitors were, it would be a totally different vibe."

Some viewers were intrigued by the idea, with one stating: "Yes, absolutely. Or maybe even as an interactive game," while a second chimed in: "That would be fun alright," and a third said: "Oooh good shout."

However, others were not convinced by the alternative format, with some arguing that knowing the Traitors is part of the 'fun' of tuning in to the show.

One person voiced out: "It would definitely add a different dimension to watching the show, but the audience [being] in on it adds to the fun massively.

"It allows us to see the heights of deception and conniving that the Traitors go to and also cringe at the Faithfuls who are so convinced they have it right (ahem…Joe), which makes up a lot of the fun parts of the viewing. We would lose a lot of fun if we didn’t know who they were"

Another Redditor shared their verdict: "I think it would be the most boring show ever. Remove the drama created by knowing who’s who and all you have is a bunch of people fumbling their way through a murder mystery, awful idea."

Meanwhile another person wrote: "I’ve wondered this. I suspect producers thought about it, but it would be a long hour of watching 22 people in a castle saying “so who do you think it is?” The turret chat is quite an entertaining bit of the show."

Yet another Traitors viewer commented: "It wouldn’t work. Almost all of the entertainment in the show stems from us knowing what the Faithful don’t."

With only three episodes left until the finale, the two remaining Traitors are Minah, who was selected by Claudia at the beginning of the series, and newly-recruited Charlotte.

The Traitors continues on Wednesday at 9pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer
