BBC Shetland fans spot new mystery as missing character causes confusion
Fans of Shetland have shared their confusion after spotting a missing character in the latest series. The BBC show is back on TV screens with a ninth season, and while it's been an instant hit with viewers, there's been some confusion about certain storylines not being revisited.
TV viewers have been wondering where DI Alison McIntosh's (Alison O'Donnell) baby is in the new series. The character, known as Tosh, welcomed a baby girl with Donnie Russell (Angus Miller), but the child has not been mentioned so far in the ninth season, despite several episodes having aired.
Taking to social media, one fan said: "Week 5 & still no sight or mention of Tosh’s baby! #ToshsBaby #shetland," while another added: "Also, 4 episodes in & still no sign or mention of Tosh’s baby!"

"Have I missed something about Tosh and Donny’s baby? Has she been seen or mentioned at all this season? #shetland," another viewer said. A fourth added: "As ever, the biggest mystery on #shetland is what’s happened to Tosh & Donnie’s baby?!"
Despite the huge mystery, the latest series of Shetland has been praised by viewers. This season sees DI Calder and Tosh take on a huge investigation after Tosh's pal Annie Betts goes missing.
Ashley Jensen, who plays DI Ruth Calder, has been praised by Shetland fans for her portrayal of the lead character since the BBC show returned to screens last month. One person wrote online: "Ashley Jensen is so good, a perfect addition, different but the same," and another added: "I'm loving Ashley Jensen in Shetland".
Speaking about series nine, Ashley, 55, said: "It’s a very complex web this series. In fact, I decided that I wasn’t going to find out who the murderer was. So, for the first three episodes I felt like I was really in Calder’s shoes.
"I was looking at people through the character’s eyes thinking, 'What are you giving me?' Then I would leave a scene and quickly look back around again, just to see if somebody was doing something they shouldn’t have been behind the coppers' backs after we’d gone!"
Ashley continued: "It added another element of fun for me. When I was playing the part, I wanted to be really present in every scene, to make myself look and listen to what people were saying, to see if I could solve the puzzle and ultimately, the crime."
Shetland continues on Wednesdays at 9pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer
