BBC shares first look at new 'A Christmas Carol' adaptation

This Christmas, BBC One is bringing us a dark new adaptation of a festive classic, Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol.

The three-part version has been written by Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders, Taboo) and produced by the team behind Taboo, and is described by the BBC as "a spine-tingling immersion into Scrooge’s dark night of the soul."

A Christmas Carol on BBC One: Who's in it?

The star-studded cast includes Guy Pearce playing Ebenezer Scrooge; Andy Serkis as Ghost of Christmas Past; Stephen Graham as Jacob Marley; Charlotte Riley as Lottie; Joe Alwyn as Bob Cratchit; Vinette Robinson as Mary Cratchit; Jason Flemyng as the Ghost of Christmas Future; Kayvan Novak as Ali Baba; Lenny Rush as Tim Cratchit and Johnny Harris as Franklin Scrooge.

A Christmas Carol on BBC One: What's it about?

We all know the story of the miserly Scrooge, who has a terrifying night being visited by the ghost of his former business partner Jacob Marley, then the Ghosts of Past, Present and Future.

Whether this adaptation will follow the script of Dickens' original tale exactly remains to be seen.

Steven Knight has said: “This production of A Christmas Carol will respectfully present what we believe to be a timely interpretation of a timeless story.”
