Doctor Who star and comedian Catherine Tate has been revealed as the UK's Eurovision 2023 spokesperson.

Ahead of her return to the TARDIS later this year, Tate will take up the important role of delivering the results of the UK's National Jury at the final on Saturday (May 13).

Speaking about her vital role at the iconic song contest, the actress said: "It's very exciting to be announcing the iconic 'douze points' at Eurovision."

Before she joked: "It's just a foot in the door really as next year I hope to be the UK entrant!"

For the first time in history, the UK spokesperson will announce the final score live from the same arena as the contest, as it is taking place in Liverpool.

Tate follows in the footsteps of other acclaimed spokespeople including Strictly Come Dancing star AJ Odudu, BGT judge Amanda Holden, Eurovision winner with Bucks Fizz Cheryl Baker and former Pointless presenter Richard Osman.

After this venture, Tate is launching a new BBC One Comedy Series titled Queen of Oz, where she will take on the titular role of Princess Georgiana, a fictional disgraced member of a British Royal Family sent to rule Australia.

However, fans are patiently waiting for Tate's return to Doctor Who in the 60th anniversary special in October, almost 12 years after she left the show.

She famously played companion Donna Noble on the beloved BBC sci-fi series, alongside David Tennant as the tenth incarnation of the Doctor.

The duo will resume their roles, before Ncuti Gatwa takes over as the Doctor, alongside his new companion Ruby Sunday played by Coronation Street star Millie Gibson.

Eurovision's last Semi-Finals airs on May 10 on BBC Four. The Grand Final will air on May 13 from 8 pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

Doctor Who returns later in 2023 on BBC One in the UK and Disney+ elsewhere. Meanwhile, in the US, the show airs on BBC America, with series 1-12 available on HBO Max. Classic Doctor Who streams on Britbox in the UK.
