BBC Antiques Roadshow host gasps as she learns value of ornament that gives her 'nightmares'

Antiques Roadshow's Fiona Bruce couldn't hide her surprise as she exclaimed "goodness me" upon discovering the value of a rather odd statue.

The beloved BBC programme Antiques Roadshow graced screens again on Sunday (September 15), with Fiona Bruce steering the ship. This time, the team visited Pitzhanger Manor and Gallery in West London, where eager locals presented their treasures for appraisal.

The public didn't hesitate to bring forth their cherished items for expert evaluation. However, the atmosphere shifted when Fiona learned the worth of a statue that she confessed was the stuff of nightmares.

In the episode, Fiona engaged in conversation with Will from the council, who showcased "prized possessions" from renowned potters The Martin brothers. Will delved into the history of the famous siblings and their notable collections.

But it seemed one piece in particular didn't quite win Fiona over. She sought the expertise of John Sandon to discuss the valuation of these peculiar pieces, to which he remarked: "It's so divisive! ", reports the Express.

Fiona pointed out a strange statue, revealing: "Can I confess, I mean, this would give me nightmares!" Discussing the standout piece, fellow expert Will described it as: "It's probably the highlight of our collection.

"It's listed in our catalogue as the Old Man of the Sea. It almost looks like a shell with a face," he added. John then unveiled the significant value of the piece, mentioning another similar item: "There's one other one like it which was sold a few years ago and was thankfully saved for the nation."

He exclaimed: "It's now in the museum in Plymouth, but it cost the incredible sum of £260,000! " The staggering price tag had everyone's jaws dropping, with Fiona joking: "Gasps behind me here! Wow! Goodness me."

John remarked: "Seriously expensive creature! " prompting Fiona to respond: "With that valuation you could blow me down with a feather!" Highlighting their significance, John continued: "These are not being sold, they are going to be enjoyed by local residents."

Antiques Roadshows airs every sunday at 8pm on BBC One.
