Bare follows a group of students at a Catholic boarding school as they struggle to come to terms with who they are, and who the world thinks they should be. As they explore their sense of identity, they seek answers from their Church, and their friends, but ultimately, from within themselves.

The musical started life as a pop opera and debuted in Los Angeles in 2000 before playing Off-Broadway in 2004. It was then revised into its current iteration which played Off-Broadway in 2012. Previously the musical has been celebrated and praised for approaching sensitive topics impacting LGBTQ+ youth.

The Palladium production will be led by Gage and Kynaston. Gage is best known for originating the role of Romeo in & Juliet as well as the titular role of Clyde Barrow in Bonnie & Clyde on the West End in 2023. He earned WhatsOnStage nominations in the Best Actor category for both productions.

Kynaston was recently seen in Netflix’s Fool Me Once as well as Paramount+’s The Doll Factory. He also starred in the 2021 Olivier-nominated production of Spring Awakening in the lead role of Melchior. He is also the winner of the Emerging Talent Award at the 65th Evening Standard Theatre Awards for his role in The Son. An all-star full-cast announcement for Bare will be made at a later date.

Bare will feature a punchy electric rock/pop score by Damon Intrabartolo and lyrics by Jon Hartmere. The Palladium production is to be directed by Dean Johnson, fresh off a concert version of the musical Once. Bare is produced by Lambert Jackson and Positive Sum.
