Barbie has arrived and we are all the better for it. We've finally been given a glimpse at the upcoming live-action Greta Gerwig movie, and it is not what we — or anyone — expected.

While little about the plot is confirmed by the teaser trailer, Barbie fans have been treated to a lot of neon pink taking over the screen and the reactions have been overwhelmingly positive.

If you missed the trailer above, you can watch it here, again (and again, and again).

Reactions on Twitter have run the gamut — but wholly on the positive end of the spectrum. From "OH. MY. GOD." to "No. Words.", people are already excited, and this is only a teaser. It comes on the heels of the first look at stars Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling in costume from set photos released earlier this year.

The images saw Robbie and Gosling in character as the iconic children's dolls Barbie and Ken and featured a lot of blonde hair, fake tan, and of course… the colour pink.

Cinema-lovers also shared their excitement for the movie when several photos of the cast filming on-location went viral online.

However, Robbie and Gosling aren’t the only famous faces set to feature in the new movie as it boasts a star-studded cast.

Elf actor Will Ferrell, Shang-Chi and the Legends of the Ten Rings' Simu Liu, Insecure's Issa Rae, Superstore's America Ferrera and Arrested Development's Michael Cera are all confirmed to be starring in the film.

The cast also includes several British stars including Sex Education’s Emma Mackey, Ncuti Gatwa and Connor Swindells, The Crown's Emerald Fennell, and Stath Lets Flats' Jamie Demetriou.

Ghostbusters' Kate McKinnon, The Umbrella Academy's Ritu Arya, And Just Like That's Hari Nef, and Little Women's Ana Cruz Kayne are also set to feature in the movie.

While Gerwig is directing the film, she also co-wrote the script with real-life partner and Marriage Story director Noah Baumbach.

Gerwig recently opened up about the risk of taking on a project like Barbie and confessed she initially feared it could be a "career-ender".

"It felt like vertigo starting to write it," she said on Dua Lipa's At Your Service podcast. "Like, where do you even begin? What would be the story?"

Barbie is scheduled to be released in cinemas on 21 July, 2023.
