Barack Obama says he’s not “hip enough” to access his daughter Sasha Obama’s private Soundcloud playlist.

The former US president discussed his and his family’s musical tastes in a new interview with Snapchat’s Good Luck America programme.

“Sasha is more protective of her music,” he said. “There’s certain things on SoundCloud. She has, like, a private playlist. She won’t share all of it with me, because she’s not sure I’m hip enough to handle it.”

Obama, 59, says he’s nonetheless “keeping up, for an old guy”. He credited both of his daughters with introducing him to new songs.

“I’m constantly listening to their music,” he said. “Sometimes by request, and sometimes just because that’s what’s blaring in our house. I pick up on some trends.”

Specifically, Obama said he consults with Malia and Sasha for his year-end playlists, in which he shares his favourite songs of the year.

The former president is currently promoting his new memoir A Promised Land, which came out last month.
