When the news that a COVID-19 vaccine might soon be available broke, it was all we could do not to cry tears of actual joy. After all, we've been waiting for pretty much all of 2020 to see the light at the end of this pandemic-shaped tunnel.

Thankfully, the UK the vaccine could be rolled out as soon as next week.

But while most of us can't wait to take the vaccine to keep our relatives safe and actually stand a chance of hugging our pals again soon, some are cynical about how quickly it has been rolled out (even though a preliminary analysis of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine has so far shown no safety concerns and has seen the formula tested on 43,500 people spread across six different countries.)

In order to promote the vaccine's safety, former US President Barack Obama has said in an interview on US radio station SiriusXM scheduled to air today that not only would he take the vaccine (after those in greater need had received it first, ofc), but that he might end up taking it on live TV.

Obama was asked about the vaccine by host Joe Madison and said: "I will be taking it and I may end up having it on TV or having it filmed just so that people know I trust this science. What I don't trust is getting COVID." You can listen to the clip here.

While he says he'd be happy to take the vaccine, he caveats by saying he will of course wait his turn: "I anticipate that the vaccines will be first made available to people who are at highest risk and if you are in that category - if you are elderly, if you've got a pre-existing condition, if you are a frontline or medical worker, if you're a first responder, you should take that vaccine. And promise you that once it's been made for people who are less at risk, I will be taking it."

Obama added that he trusted America's top immunologist, Dr Anthony Fauci. "People like Anthony Fauci, who I know, and I’ve worked with, I trust completely. So if Anthony Fauci tells me this vaccine is safe, and can vaccinate, immunize you from getting COVID, absolutely I’m going to take it," he continued.

US news outlet CNN also reports that his fellow former presidents, George W. Bush and Bill Clinton, could also volunteer to take the vaccine on camera.
