Bake Off's Prue Leith reveals her excitement at Alison Hammond joining the show
The Great British Bake Off judge Prue Leith has revealed her excitement at Alison Hammond joining the show, revealing that she hopes the incoming host will put an end to the innuendos.
The This Morning presenter was announced as Matt Lucas’ replacement back in March, and Prue has admitted that she would like the show to be a bit less smutty in the new era.
“I never get the jokes, you know... all this stuff about innuendo and things,” she told Nick Grimshaw on the Dish podcast. “I feel I'm really glad Alison's coming, because at least she's a woman and she'll be a little more sensible.
“Those three men [Matt, Noel Fielding, Paul Hollywood], they're like three children. The word ‘sausage’ puts them into [hysterics],” she said, before bursting into laughter.
Prue has offered similar sentiments ever since Alison’s unveiling as the new host, with the judge previously saying during a chat with Metro: “I think it’ll be fantastic, not only because of her character and her personality, but I like the fact she’s a woman.
“I love Matt and I’m sure we’ll be friends for life, but the fact is, when there were three men and me, because there were numbers of them, they just got sillier and sillier and I never understood the jokes."
She jokingly added: "They’re like four years olds. So, I’m looking forward to having a woman around."
Upon her announcement as the new host, Alison expressed her excitement by saying she “couldn’t wait to get started” on the show, adding that her colleagues were just as excited for her.
"We're so, so very happy and we can't wait to get started," she said.
The Great British Bake Off airs on Channel 4 in the UK. In the US, it's known as The Great British Baking Show, and streams on Netflix.
