Bake Off's Prue Leith responds to Matt Lucas leaving the show
Dame Prue Leith has shared her sadness over Matt Lucas’ exit as co-host from The Great British Bake Off.
Back in December, the Bridesmaids actor announced he was leaving the Channel 4 show after three series co-presenting with Noel Fielding, as he couldn’t commit to the demanding filming schedule.
Speaking to Saga magazine, Prue said she is devastated that Matt is leaving the show and has no idea who could replace him.
"I’m very, very sad he’s leaving," she shared.
"I totally understand why, because Bake Off takes up four months of the year and he’s extraordinarily talented and wants to do more writing, more theatre."
While she couldn’t reveal any names for Matt's replacement, Prue said the position could be life-changing for the next presenter to work on the well-loved show.
When asked if she had any idea who would take on the role, she responded: "Not a clue – although who wouldn’t want to work on Bake Off? It’s the best job on television. It absolutely changed my life."
Last month, Matt took to social media to announce the news of his departure.
He wrote: "It’s been a delicious experience and I can’t imagine a more fun way of spending my summers, but it’s become clear to me that I can’t present both Fantasy Football League and Bake Off alongside all my other projects.
"I am cheerfully passing the baguette on to someone else."
The Great British Bake Off airs on Channel 4 in the UK. In the US, it's known as The Great British Baking Show, and streams on Netflix.
