One of The Great British Bake Off’s favourite contestants has been voted out of the show after melting in the heat of chocolate week.

Sura had barely put a foot wrong until this week, but struggled in all three challenges - culminating in the showstopper where her white chocolate celebration cake was so raw that judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith wouldn't even taste it.

Her disastrously underbaked cake made her the fourth baker to be booted from the Channel 4 show, a shock result as many viewers had expected her to make the final.

Fans of series 11 were sad to see her leave as she had become one of the contest favourites, but with the choice for bottom place between her and fellow popular baker Lottie, the result was always going to be disappointing.

In fact, presenter Noel Fielding even offered to sacrifice his own spot on the programme as judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith deliberated, telling them: “I really like Lottie and Sura, so I will go instead of them if you want.”

Aside from her baking prowess, Sura also won fans for her love of walking her cat on a lead, and pulling some truly memorable facial expressions.

All of the bakers had struggled in the first challenge, where they were given a supposedly “easy” task to make brownies, but everyone had problems with either texture, flavour or look.

The technical was also tricky for many - a chocolate babka, something that most of them had never even heard of.

However, the decider came down to the showstopper white chocolate celebration cake, where Sura’s effort was almost completely raw while Lottie managed to pull things back with a stunning anniversary cake.

In making their decision, Hollywood asked Leith: “Has Lottie done enough to stay in the competition, and has Sura really failed that much that she has to go?”

Meanwhile, rising to the top of the table was Mark, who was awarded this week’s Star Baker title for a strong performance through all three challenges.

Even those who didn’t leave the competition will be glad to see the back of chocolate week, which proved to be the most difficult so far.

The Great British Bake Off continues on Tuesdays at 8pm on Channel 4.
