There’s clearly something in the butter/sugar/flour on the Great British Bake Off, after Prue Leith revealed her age and left the nation in a state of shock. Did you know the TV star was in her eighties?

In a chat with hosts Noel Fielding and Matt Lucas discussing the technical challenge on Tuesday's show (10 November) – a Sussex Pond pudding (no, us neither up until that very moment) – Prue casually dropped into conversation that she is 80 years old. In fact, she turns 81 in three months' time.

Viewers were shocked by the revelation, and flooded Twitter with their surprise and awe at Prue being an octogenarian.

"Hold on. @PrueLeith is 80?!! What?!" wrote one fan.

So, what is Prue's tip for staying so young? Luck, positivity and loving her job. Simple as that.

“I think it's 90 per cent luck isn't it?,” Prue previously told Good Housekeeping when we asked how she doesn’t look her age. “It's about energy. I think if you're happy it makes a huge difference, because you wake up in the morning and you want to get up, and life's good.

“Most people will look better on holiday than they do at work, and it's because they enjoy holidays more than they enjoy work. The people that look great at work are the ones who are really having a good time.”

Last week, Noel Fielding’s shocked Bake Off fans when he revealed he was 47, so we’ll have some of what they’re both having please.
