Avengers star Aaron Taylor-Johnson is taking on another Marvel character for an upcoming Spider-Man spin-off movie.
The 30-year-old actor has signed up for the long-awaited solo movie for classic Spidey villain Kraven the Hunter, where he is set to take on the title role (via TheWrap).
Of course, Taylor-Johnson previously faced off with Thor, Iron Man, Black Widow and the rest of the Avengers along with his on-screen sister Elizabeth Olsen (aka Scarlet Witch) in Age of Ultron.
His character Pietro Maximoff aka Quicksilver was killed in that film and while many expected him to cameo in the recent Disney+ show WandaVision, an alternate version of Pietro played by X-Men actor Evan Peters turned up instead.
Kraven the Hunter is like Venom and Morbius in that it takes place in Sony's parallel series of films based on Marvel Comics characters – but there have been on-screen connections to the MCU.
The villainous Kraven – imbued with the speed and strength of a jungle cat – first appeared in the pages of Marvel Comics in 1964, created by the legendary writing team of Stan Lee and Steve Ditko.
Over the decades, Kraven has been a thorn in Spider-Man's side as a member of Sinister Six along with Venom and Morbius (when the group took on various other monikers).
A solo film for Kraven was initially announced in the summer of 2017, but stalled until A Most Violent Year director JC Chandor revived the project out of a multi-year dormancy.
Aside from playing Quicksilver in the MCU, Taylor-Johnson also played the titular superhero in Kick-Ass and has had memorable performances in Outlaw King and Tenet.
Kraven the Hunter releases on January 13, 2023.
