The goal was to manipulate daylight and volume, a signature of the firm. Each room has high ceilings and strategic window placements that flood the home with natural light. There are many skylights and innovative ceiling geometries that add dynamic elements throughout the home. With clean lines, high-end lighting, and a fluid transition between spaces, the tranquil rooms feel as though you’re living within an art gallery. The sleek concrete floors add an element of sophistication, while the wood and stone accents make it feel homey.
At the heart of the open-plan home, a light-filled great room offers plenty of space for watching TV or entertaining guests. The living area is wrapped in floor-to-ceiling windows, so you’re never too far from the outdoors. Nearby are a spacious dining room and a contemporary kitchen with an eat-in marble island. The significant amount of wall space will be appreciated by collectors hoping to display an art collection.
A serene hallway connects the communal living areas to the sanctuary-like bedrooms. The primary suite, with a wood-paneled ceiling, has two walls of windows overlooking towering oak trees and lush landscaping. The primary bathroom has a double vanity, an elegant freestanding tub, and an outdoor shower.
The other bedrooms are equally spacious, with plenty of storage spaces and en-suite bathrooms. A sculptural floating staircase connects the first and second floors. There’s also a sleek gym with a view of the backyard. Outside is an entertainer’s paradise with a large pool, a bocce ball court, and a separate standalone pool house designed by Austin-based Mell Lawrence Architects.
There’s also a covered kitchen and dining area with a barbecue for outdoor gatherings and many seating areas to enjoy sunset views of the idyllic Hill Country. The home exists in perfect harmony with nature and is a fabulous example of how modern architecture can harmonize with its natural setting.
The home has won several architectural awards, including the 2018 Architecture Master Prize and the 2017 American Architecture Award. It’s listed by Gary Dolch of the Austin Luxury Group at Compass.
