An Audrey Hepburn TV series is in the works

Audrey Hepburn's life is about to get the major TV treatment for the first time. A drama series about the Hollywood icon's "formative years" is in the works, and it's being written by The Good Wife writer and producer Jacqueline Hoyt, Variety reported.

At this stage, no casting announcements for Audrey have been made yet, but the search for the leading lady will surely be a big one. Production companies Wildside and Fremantle, which was behind The Young Pope and My Brilliant Friend, are behind the upcoming series. Plot details are still under wraps.

Hoyt is penning the script based on a treatment from Luca Dotti—Hepburn's son with psychiatrist Andrea Dotti, whom Hepburn was married to from 1969 to 1982—and Luigi Spinola, a journalist and writer. Their plans for the series were first reported in 2018. Dotti and Spinola previously collaborated on the 2015 best seller Audrey at Home: Memories of My Mother's Kitchen, which was part cookbook and photo book.

As one of Old Hollywood's biggest and most beloved stars, Hepburn is no stranger to posthumous tributes, whether on the page or screen. Earlier this year, a new documentary, also named Audrey, was released from director Helena Coan and included appearances from the star's other son, Sean Hepburn Ferrer, and granddaughter, Emma Ferrer.

"She really had this sort of deep desire for love, and that's what she was chasing," the younger Ferrer told BAZAAR.com.

She also told us of her grandmother, "I know that Audrey went through a lot during World War II and that there was an immense amount of pain within her family and in the war, and all of the struggles with her father and whatnot, but to really understand how all of those aspects came together and formed this identity of a person, that is sort of like the new lens through which to see her."
