One of Aston Villa's reported January transfer targets has been taken off the table due to a fresh injury blow. Villa have already spent significantly over recent times, with Unai Emery receiving significant backing over the course of the summer.

The likes of Pau Torres, Moussa Diaby and others were brought in to set up an impressive start to the season that points towards another possible European qualification for Villa. The signing of Torres was a particularly eye-catching one, with Emery reuniting with one of his former defenders from his Villarreal days.

Another player Emery has reportedly remained keen on is winger Yeremy Pino, who is still only 21 years of age, already racked up 12 senior Spain appearances. The winger has quickly become one of the most renowned widemen in Spain, and reports from the Iberian nation have claimed Aston Villa could be interested in snapping him up. Arsenal and Liverpool have also been linked in the past.

But as far as January is concerned, Villa will not be in for Yeremy due to a cruel injury blow that not only ends the player's season, but it will also end his hopes of representing Spain at Euro 2024. Yeremy took part in a morning training session with Villarreal on Thursday, hoping to appoint new boss Marcelino, who was appointed earlier this week, but he was taken out of the session after picking up a significant injury.

It has now been all-but confirmed that he has suffered an Anterior Cruciate Ligament injury that will end his season, and indeed any chance of a January transfer. Villarreal teammate Alex Baena - who has also been linked with Villa - posted a message of support on Instagram, writing: "We will play together again soon. In the good and the not so bad. I love you my friend."
