Ashley Graham says curvy girls should wear white

In the unwritten rule book for plus-size women, there are more than a handful of guidelines by which women above a certain size are to abide: Accentuate your waist, don’t over-accessorize, avoid spillage, and, whatever you do, don’t wear light colors.

Of course, those “rules” are beyond antiquated, a relic from when one of the last forms of socially acceptable discrimination was left unchecked. Luckily, fearless women like model and entrepreneur Ashley Graham have thrown out the rule book.

At the Council of Fashion Designers of America and Vogue Fashion Fund Awards on Monday in New York City, Graham opted for a white midi-length dress by Victor Glemaud. The next day, she wore a white two-piece crop top and pencil skirt from Australian brand Meshki ($76!) at a Forevermark Tribute Event, also in Manhattan.

“Why can’t a curvy girl wear white?” Graham asks Yahoo Lifestyle. “I was always told I can’t. I’ve been told that a lot, and it’s in the rule book for curvy girls.” Not anymore.
