Arsenal have reportedly lowered their Bernd Leno transfer demands to give Fulham fresh hope of a deal breakthrough in the coming days.

The German goalkeeper lost his place as the Gunners’ first-choice stopper last season. Aaron Ramsdale’s potential looked unclear in September after his big-money move, but he hit the ground running and has not looked back.

Furthermore, Arsenal boss has now signed USA star Matt Turner as his new second-choice goalkeeper.

Leno is therefore willing to leave Arsenal. And the Gunners are especially keen to offload him because he only has one year left on his contract.

Initial reports claimed the north London club were looking for £10million for Leno. More recently, those demands supposedly increased to £15million.

Now, though, the Evening Standard reports that Arsenal transfer chief Edu has accepted defeat in the hunt for a maximum return on the Gunners’ £19.3million investment back in 2018.

Indeed, Arsenal are now reportedly progressing talks with Fulham over an £8million deal for Leno.

Arsenal realise that something is better than nothing, which is what Leno could leave for next summer if he enters the final year of his contract.

All parties need Bernd Leno transfer

There is also the need for Arsenal to grant Leno’s move away after his drop in game time and status.

And Leno feels a Fulham transfer would be perfect because he can keep playing in the Premier League while also staying in London.

Fulham feel the same way as they look to survive in the top flight – unlike their last season there in 2020/21.

Leno, 30, has played 125 games for Arsenal including 101 in the Premier League. His experience will prove vital for Fulham if they are to put up a serious fight against relegation.

Gunners eyeing further sales

Just like last summer, Arsenal are once again one of the Premier League’s biggest spenders.

Gabriel Jesus, the striker from Manchester City, is the marquee arrival of five in a £45million deal.

Exciting midfielder Fabio Vieira, meanwhile, has cost £34million – and there could be another midfield signing soon.

But the focus is now turning to balancing the books. Leno is one of the more obvious candidates in the for-sale category.

Lucas Torreira is another who could go before the transfer window closes on September 1.
